Smartlapjes: personalised embroidered handkerchiefs by Dutch grannies
We were looking for an item to give to a friend or loved one. Something that symbolized endless support and love. An item that could be personalisedwith a message or a phone number.
So we came up with the idea of embroidered handkerchiefs. And once we entered the world of embroidery, we discovered that many older women love to embroider and often create more then their environment is asking for.

PLATFORM FOR GRANNIES THAT LOVE EMBROIDERY
To give grandmothers who love to embroider a broader audience and to promote the craft in general, a new project started: Smartlapjes. Through www.smartlapjes.nl people can order a custom-made smartlapje. (Smartlapje is Dutch for a cotton handkerchief but it is also the term for typical Dutch sentimental folk music).

MEET THE GRANNIES AND SEE THEIR WORK
It’s admirable when people who craft and create small, precious things. So we organised an event to put them in the spotlights. Held at Paradiso Amsterdam. We found the perfect sponsor in of the Dutch Foundation Liefde in de Stad (‘Love in the City’) as they promote love by stimulating art and projects in the city of Amsterdam.
